The Hourglass Art Gallery, Lagos, Nigeria
The hourglass is a metaphor
for enduring art. Like the hourglass the
best art is an indicator of a specific time,
yet is eternal. The Hourglass Gallery was set up in
1997 and represents the artists we believe
are creating hourglass quality works in
Nigeria.
The Gallery is situated at 5 Biaduo Street,
S.W. Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria.
Our Mission is to promote the appreciation
and acceptance of Nigerian art in Nigeria
and abroad by working with both established
and growing artists to create and market
distinctive works of art.
At inception we had to make
a choice about the sort of gallery we would
become. We decided to look beyond art as
esthetics. To deal with clients who wanted
meaningful works of art, artworks that would
go beyond adorning their walls; artworks
that would make statements about our times,
cultures and our lives. We wanted to carry works that would stand the test of
time and provide our customers with long
term financial, cultural and esthetic benefits.
We carry the art of a wide variety of artists in Nigeria and Ghana, including Abayomi Barber, Ben Enwonwu, Ablade Glover, Kolade Oshinowo, Ben Osawe, Ben Osaghae, Duke Asidere, Kofi Agorsor, Wiz Kudowor, Sam Ovraiti and Bruce Onobrakpeya
