Amos Odion, was a Nigerian sculptor, whose works feature sculptures carved from hard wood. His style exhibits a fusion of ancient folklore and geometric shapes and designs. The interplay of forms, angles and symbolism characterizes his sculptures.
Odion was born in 1943 in Benin City. He studied art at Yaba College of Technology. Odion apprenticed under renowned artists Felix Idubor, and Erhabor Emokpae.
His notable exhibitions include “An Exhibition of Sculptures by Amos Odion” at the National Theatre, Lagos in 1984.
His wooden sculptures have been installed at sites all over the world including the Economic Commission for Africa Headquarters, Addis Ababa and Unilever Headquarters, London.
