Nsikak Essien is a multimedia artist based in Lagos. He has, over the past three decades, created strange, iconic multimedia artworks that explore religion, love and family.
Religion has always been primary in his art. Crosses, and other religious iconography, express his profound faith and how this faith affects other aspects of his life.
Essien was born in 1957. He studied art at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, graduating in 1979. He lectured at his alma mater from 1980 until 1991 when he moved to Lagos to undertake full-time studio practice.
He continues to create art using a diverse array of material. And he continues to explore faith and its capacity to bind, heal and renew.
